BPA Improves Traffic Signal System Near New Port Pier 4 Road... Expecting Reduction in Traffic Accidents

Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) announced on the 16th that it has improved the traffic signal system and repainted road markings such as crosswalks on roads near New Port Pier 4 to prevent traffic accidents and improve traffic flow on the New Port access road.

Regarding the changes in the signal system, the waiting time for vehicles turning left from New Port Pier 4 (Gate) toward Shinhangnam-ro at the crosswalk next to the parking lot at the pier entrance was reduced to encourage compliance with traffic signals.

Additionally, the green light duration for vehicles going straight from Pier 4 toward Shinhang Samgeori was shortened to reduce vehicle traffic and enhance the safety of pedestrians using the crosswalk.

Through these measures, vehicles moving from the New Port South Container Terminal to Shinhangnam-ro can enter and exit New Port Pier 4 (HPNT) more safely, and the identification of pedestrian safety zones such as crosswalks will be smoother, thereby reducing the risk of traffic accidents.

This traffic signal system improvement was carried out following consultations and on-site inspections by the “New Port Gangseo District Traffic Accident Reduction Council,” composed of related organizations including the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Busan Port Construction Office, Gangseo Fire Station, and Gangseo Police Station in May.

The traffic system improvement work implemented by this council in the New Port area is the second effort following the installation of colored guide lines around Shinhang Samgeori in July.

BPA Operations Director Hong Sung-joon stated, “We will continue to actively promote improvement activities to reduce traffic accidents at Busan New Port through close communication and cooperation with related organizations.”
