Damyang County announced on the 16th that it will conduct the ‘GKL Auditory Travel Project Fam Tour’ targeting 80 visually impaired and non-disabled participants residing in Seoul and Busan at Damyang’s representative tourist sites, Juknokwon and Hanjaegol Neighborhood Park, until November 1.
The ‘GKL Auditory Travel Project’ is a joint initiative launched in July by Damyang County and the GKL Social Contribution Foundation to provide auditory-based tourism content to the visually impaired, enhancing accessibility to cultural tourism and creating an environment that everyone can enjoy.
A course featuring Damyang’s famous spots, Juknokwon and Hanjaegol Neighborhood Park, has been created, and participants are provided with specialized equipment such as recorders and headsets that allow them to hear even the subtle sounds of nature.
Participants can vividly experience the sounds of living nature, such as the rustling of bamboo in the wind and the flowing of valley water. They also have time to touch fruits and receive expert explanations on what sounds are produced when tapping bamboo of different ages and which sounds to focus on during each season.
The county plans to officially operate this project starting next year and aims to enhance the program’s completeness by providing pre-guidance training to cultural tourism interpreters.
A county official stated, “This fam tour was prepared to offer an opportunity for not only the visually impaired but also non-disabled people to experience nature in a new way,” adding, “We will continue to develop tourism programs for various target groups.”
