"Over 1.4 Million Youth Sign Petition for Military Enlistment"
"We Will Show the Madmen the Real Taste of War"
Presumed as a Method to Foster Regime Unity
Over the two days of the 14th and 15th, more than 1.4 million youths and students across North Korea have petitioned to enlist or return to the People's Army, with the number increasing daily, according to a report by the Korean Central News Agency on the 16th. [Source=Yonhap News]
North Korea claimed that a flood of young people are volunteering to enlist with the purpose of taking revenge on South Korea.
On the 16th, the Workers' Party organ Rodong Sinmun reported on its front page, "The resolute will to punish the South Korean trash who violated the sovereignty and safety of our sacred republic is overflowing throughout the country," and stated, "More than 1.4 million youths nationwide have signed petitions to enlist and re-enlist." It added, "The youths expressed their determination to show the real taste of war and the fury of firestorms to the madmen recklessly rampaging."
Rodong Sinmun also published several articles on the front page reporting that residents, upon hearing the news that a South Korean drone had infiltrated Pyongyang, are pouring their boiling anger into farming work and achieving results. Furthermore, since the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' major statement on the 12th reporting that a South Korean drone had infiltrated the skies over Pyongyang, the newspaper has been prominently featuring articles condemning South Korea on pages 1 and 2 daily. Previously, North Korea has also publicized news of youths petitioning to enlist through state media whenever there is an occasion, emphasizing external threats from South Korea, the United States, and others. This is presumed to be one of the methods to promote regime unity.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs claimed on the 11th that South Korea infiltrated drones into Pyongyang on the 3rd, 9th, and 10th of this month to distribute leaflets, but our military maintains a position that it cannot confirm the facts.
