Dong-A University 'Dong-A Automobile Research Society' Wins Bronze at College Student Homemade Car Competition

The Largest Domestic Competition Hosted by the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers... Formula Category

Dong-A University (President Lee Hae-woo) announced on the 16th that students from the ‘Dong-A Automobile Research Club (DASC)’ won the bronze medal in the Formula category at the ‘2024 University Student Self-Built Car Competition’.

Hosted by the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers, the University Student Self-Built Car Competition began in 2007 and is now in its 18th year, boasting the largest scale and number of participating teams in Korea. This year, 54 teams from 40 universities nationwide and 2 universities overseas (China) submitted self-built cars.

The competition was recently held on the paved road of the E-Mobility Research Center at the Korea Automotive Research Institute in Yeonggwang, Jeollanam-do. The Formula category involved strict vehicle and safety inspections (noise, rain, braking, tilting tests) followed by evaluations in acceleration, skid pad, autocross-gymkhana, and endurance racing events.

The ‘Eurachacha DF-24’ car awarded to the Dong-A University team in this competition is a single-seater rear-wheel-drive race car powered by a 690cc engine, featuring an open-wheel design similar to Formula 1. The car was entirely handcrafted by the students of the Dong-A Automobile Research Club from start to finish.

Han Seok-min (4th year, Department of Mechanical Engineering), the team leader of the award-winning team, said, “I am truly happy that the vehicle we worked tirelessly day and night with the team members has won an award, which feels like the fruit of our efforts. We will work hard to build an impressive car again next year and strive for good results.”

Founded in 1988, Dong-A University’s central club ‘Dong-A Automobile Research Club’ (advised by Professor Ryu Eul-hyun) currently has about 60 students from 1st to 4th year actively participating. The club has consistently won awards at this competition, including encouragement prizes in 2018 and 2020, and a silver prize in 2022.
