14 Free Dance Performances to Be Showcased at Geumjeong Cultural Center on November 2-3
The 33rd Busan University Dance Community Arts Festival, which has established itself as a platform for outstanding dance works by university professors in Busan and as a creative hub for young artists who will lead the future of Busan dance, will be held with free admission for all seats on November 2 and 3 at Geumbitnuri Hall, Geumjeong Cultural Center, Geumjeong-gu, Busan.
Busan National University, Silla University, and Busan Women's University will hold the 'Busan University Dance Community Arts Festival.'
This festival will begin with a professional workshop on the 30th at the 10.16 Memorial Hall of Pusan National University, followed by performances led by young dancers from universities in Busan such as Pusan National University, Silla University, and Busan Women's University.
The Busan University Dance Community Arts Festival is a youth dance festival based on the academic discipline of dance, where universities in Busan collaborate to explore joint projects. It is co-hosted by the Busan University Dance Association (Executive Director Park Sangyong, Professor of Dance at Pusan National University) and the Geumjeong Cultural Center, aiming to vitalize the local dance scene and lead the future of university dance.
In particular, this year's festival will present both specialist and young artist works on the same stage, offering a rare opportunity to experience both the present and future of Busan dance at once.
At the specialist performances held at 6 PM on November 2 and 3 at Geumbitnuri Hall, Geumjeong Cultural Center, Professor Park Sangyong of Pusan National University's Department of Dance will present a Korean dance piece titled "Dal. Geonneoda," and Professor Park Suhwa of Busan Women's University's Department of Child Sports Rehabilitation Dance will present a street dance piece titled "Hide." In addition, a total of 14 dance performances will be showcased, including 12 young artist performances of contemporary dance, street dance, Korean dance, and practical dance choreographed by students from Pusan National University, Silla University, and Busan Women's University.
Furthermore, at the professional workshop held on the 30th, Professor Lee Taesang of Silla University's Department of Future Convergence will serve as mentor and lecturer, helping young dancers explore new realms of dance.
The Busan University Dance Association is the only organization in the country where local universities have united to consistently hold dance festivals for over 30 years, striving to build inter-university networks and develop the local dance culture.
Park Sangyong, Executive Director of the Busan University Dance Association, stated, "This event will feature high-quality creative works choreographed by university professors as specialists, leading the Busan dance scene, and through the unique and experimental performances by young artist choreographers, it will be a meaningful performance that offers a glimpse into the future of university dance. I hope that this festival, serving as an incubator to foster young choreographers in Busan and as a creative hub for young artists, will be filled with experimentation, challenge, spirit, and passion, revitalizing the stagnant university dance scene in the region."
