Training Now Available Anytime... Training Period Reduced from 6 Weeks to 4 Weeks
Cheonan City in Chungnam Province announced on the 16th that it has designated and officially notified three city bus transportation companies as driver training institutions.
Until now, those wishing to become city bus drivers had to complete driver training at the Korea Transportation Safety Authority's Traffic Safety Experience Centers located in Gyeonggi Province and North Gyeongsang Province, which caused significant inconvenience.
With the responsibility for training now transferred to Cheonan's city bus companies, training can be provided on a regular basis and the training period has been shortened from six weeks to four weeks.
The training institutions will provide theoretical education on relevant laws, transportation services, and safe driving, as well as practical and driving training.
The city, in cooperation with Chungnam Province, plans to provide partial livelihood support to trainees. However, drivers who receive training support funds and are hired must work for the transportation company for at least one year; if they leave before one year, the support funds will be reclaimed.
Kim Taejong, head of the Public Transportation Division, said, "By designating these training institutions, we will address the supply and demand issue for city bus drivers and support the trained drivers so they can become skilled professionals."
