Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) has designated Sinnae-gu-gil in Sinnae-dong and Gyeomjae Hanshin-gil in Myeonmok-dong as the 7th and 8th alley-type shopping districts of Jungnang-gu, respectively, and held a certificate awarding ceremony for the designation of the alley-type shopping districts.
An alley-type shopping district is a system that grants qualifications similar to traditional markets to areas within 2,000㎡ where more than 30 stores operated by small business owners are densely concentrated.
Once designated as an alley-type shopping district, small business owner-dense areas that have not been recognized as traditional markets so far can receive support at a level equivalent to traditional markets under the Traditional Market Act (abbreviated).
Since 2022, the district has been newly designating two alley-type shopping districts each year to expand the foundation for supporting small business owners in every alley of Jungnang-gu. Especially this year, following the designation of the 5th and 6th alley-type shopping districts in February, a total of four new districts have been designated including the 7th and 8th, demonstrating a strong commitment to revitalizing the local commercial areas.
Sinnae-gu-gil is expected to see a large influx of new customers when the commercial area revitalization project is promoted, as there are large apartment complexes nearby. Also, Gyeomjae Hanshin-gil is led by young merchants operating dessert shops and cafes, making it a place where fresh ideas from merchants for future commercial area revitalization are anticipated.
The district plans to actively collect opinions from the merchant associations of the newly designated 7th and 8th alley-type shopping districts and continuously promote commercial area revitalization projects that can highlight the unique characteristics of these alley-type shopping districts.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “Congratulations on the designation of the 7th and 8th alley-type shopping districts of Jungnang-gu,” and added, “We will continue to promote and support various commercial area revitalization policies to empower the commercial areas and small business owners of Jungnang-gu.”
