Gyeonggi Province is launching a pilot project to issue anonymous cards exclusively for purchasing menstrual products to foreign female adolescents.
Gyeonggi Province was the first in the nation to introduce the "Universal Support Project for Menstrual Products for Female Adolescents" in 2021, and starting this year, it expanded the support to include foreign-registered residents and foreign nationality youth who have reported domestic residence in the province.
This pilot project aims to support foreign female adolescents who have difficulty applying for the "Universal Support Project for Menstrual Products for Female Adolescents" due to lack of a mobile phone or language barriers, by providing anonymous cards that allow them to purchase menstrual products using Gyeonggi local currency without a separate membership registration process.
The target areas for the project are Ansan and Pyeongtaek, where more than half of the foreign female adolescents in the province reside. Foreign female adolescents aged 11 to 18 living in these areas can apply by visiting their nearest eup/myeon/dong community service center from the 16th of this month until the 15th of next month.
After a duplication check process, selected recipients will receive 13,000 KRW per month, up to a maximum of 156,000 KRW per year, for purchasing menstrual products, provided via city/county local currency cards. The cards can be used at convenience stores (CU, GS25, 7-Eleven, Emart24) within each city/county until December 31 of this year.
Go Young-mi, Director of Youth Affairs at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Through this pilot project, we aim to take a step closer to improving the welfare and guaranteeing the health rights of foreign female adolescents," adding, "We will analyze the effects of the pilot project and consider expanding it to all 31 cities and counties in the future."
