Suniwa Chilgongju is an 8-member hip-hop group formed by eight grandmothers from the Chilgok area with an average age of 85. Grandma Seo Mu-seok began her activities as a rapper in the group starting from August last year. In January, she experienced abnormal symptoms in her throat and was diagnosed with stage 3 lymphoma blood cancer and given a prognosis of three months to live. However, Grandma Seo did not inform anyone except her family and continued to perform rap, which she loved.
In particular, Grandma Seo never missed practice sessions held every Tuesday and Thursday at the senior center. She appeared in various broadcasts and government policy videos and participated in music video productions. She was appointed as a member of the Veterans Honors Club by receiving a commission from Kang Jeong-ae, Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. On the 4th, she also performed the final stage at the '2024 Hangul Week Opening Ceremony' held at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. However, from the 6th, her health suddenly deteriorated, and after undergoing detailed examinations, it was found that the cancer had metastasized to her lungs. She was in a state of unconsciousness and passed away on the same day.
