Incheon City will establish seven new bus routes in Songdo, Yeongjong, and Geomdan, where public transportation demand is increasing rapidly due to a surge in population inflow.
According to the city on the 15th, two routes in Songdo (12 buses), two in Yeongjong (14 buses), and three in Geomdan (14 buses) will be newly established and start operating from the 19th. However, one route in Yeongjong (No. 2201, 6 buses) will begin operation from the 30th due to vehicle delivery issues.
The city established the 'Bus Route Establishment and Increase Plan (2023?2024)' last year, which includes the creation of 18 new routes (59 buses) in preparation for large-scale apartment move-ins and industrial complex development in the new towns.
Accordingly, following the establishment of 11 routes (19 buses) in Geomdan New Town, Luwon City, and Handeul District by March, the remaining seven routes (40 buses) have now been added. The areas where these new bus routes have been established have seen a population increase of more than 30% since the full revision of city bus routes in December 2020, leading to a significant rise in city bus usage demand.
An official from Incheon City stated, "We will continue to analyze comprehensive transportation demand not only in new town areas but also in the original downtown areas where redevelopment and reconstruction are actively underway. We will proactively respond to changes in the transportation environment, such as railway network construction and the opening of metropolitan roads, to ensure that no public transportation blind spots occur."
