Paju City is participating in the 'Korea ESG Eco-friendly Expo' to promote excellent cases of resource circulation using discarded banners. Gyeonggi Paju City announced on the 15th that it participated in the 'Korea ESG Eco-friendly Expo' held from the 10th to the 12th at COEX (located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul) to promote excellent cases of resource circulation of waste banners.
Hosted by the Ministry of Environment, the 'Korea ESG Eco-friendly Expo' is the longest-running environmental exhibition in Korea, where companies and institutions open about 250 exhibition halls to introduce the latest eco-friendly products, technologies, and policies.
In December last year, Paju City became the first in the nation to enact an eco-friendly banner ordinance and has been promoting policies for resource circulation of waste banners. In September, Paju City's waste banner recycling policy was selected as the best institution in the local government (public) category at the '2024 Waste Banner Resource Circulation Culture Creation Competition' and received a commendation from the Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
Since the enactment of Paju City's ordinance, 25 local governments including Gongju City, Gunsan City, Jungnang-gu in Seoul, Gimhae City, and Sejong Special Self-Governing City have also enacted similar ordinances, spreading the waste banner resource circulation policy nationwide. In line with this trend, the city participated in this exhibition to share awareness of carbon neutrality practice.
At this exhibition, Paju City introduced its excellent cases such as ▲operating the ‘Compensation System for Using Eco-friendly Banner Materials’ ▲self-developing the eco-friendly banner design guideline ‘Sangnyang (Eco-Friendly Banner)’ ▲operating ‘Designated Posting Boards Exclusively for Eco-friendly Banners’ ▲and a fashion show utilizing waste banners.
In particular, the city set up an exhibition space to display products made from waste banners such as eco-friendly bags and broadcast promotional videos to provide an overview of the recycling business, enhancing understanding. Additionally, informational brochures introducing Paju City's eco-friendly policies were distributed to visitors, emphasizing the importance of carbon neutrality and resource circulation.
Kim Kyung-il, Mayor of Paju City, said, “I am honored to participate in this exhibition where the government, local governments, public institutions, and companies gather in one place to share Paju City's excellent cases,” adding, “Transitioning to carbon neutrality is an essential task to address the climate crisis, and Paju City will continue to actively discover related policies such as eco-friendly outdoor advertising.”
