Analyzing CCTV Footage Using AI After Entering Missing Person's Description
Supporting Police to Use It Directly Online
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will pilot a system that quickly locates missing persons using artificial intelligence (AI)-based closed-circuit television (CCTV).
The probability of finding socially vulnerable groups such as children, elderly dementia patients, and disabled persons significantly decreases after 3 to 24 hours of disappearance. To find missing persons more quickly, the district established this system through a Seoul city public contest project.
When a photo or description of the missing person is entered into the system, AI analyzes the CCTV footage to swiftly identify the missing person's movement path. This allows securing the critical golden time to find the missing person.
Additionally, by linking with the ‘Smart City Safety Network Service,’ the system can be used by Seoul city and the 112 emergency call center, supporting the police to search and track missing persons in real time.
The district installed the system at the U-Integrated Operation Center on the basement first floor of Geumcheon-gu Office. After the pilot operation, any shortcomings will be supplemented before official operation.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “The AI-based CCTV rapid search system for missing persons we have established enables quick and efficient responses to missing person investigations,” and added, “We will continue to strive to protect the safety of residents by utilizing various advanced technologies.”
