Lawsuit for Fraud Allegations... Settlement Reached Between Parties
It was recently confirmed that broadcaster Lee Jin-ho, who confessed to illegal online gambling, was sued last June for borrowing money from an acquaintance and failing to repay it.
According to the police on the 14th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul received a fraud accusation complaint against Lee Jin-ho that had been filed with the Goyang Police Station in Gyeonggi Province last June. It was confirmed that the complaint was filed on the grounds that he borrowed tens of millions of won from an acquaintance despite having no ability to repay the money and then failed to do so.
However, the police understood that the parties reached an agreement in early September, and the victim withdrew the complaint, resulting in the case being dismissed. It has not been confirmed whether this lawsuit was related to financial transactions stemming from illegal gambling.
Earlier that day, Lee Jin-ho personally confessed to illegal gambling through his social networking service (SNS). Lee Jin-ho said, "In 2020, by chance, I started playing games on an illegal online gambling site and ended up with debts that were difficult to handle." He added, "I promise to repay the debts left to me no matter what happens. I sincerely apologize to many people who were disappointed by me for causing social unrest and being desperate to hide it," and stated, "I will also cooperate sincerely with the police investigation and pay the price for my wrongdoing."
According to entertainment media Ten Asia and others, BTS member Jimin, broadcaster Lee Soo-geun, singers Youngtak and Ha Sung-woon, among others, lent Lee Jin-ho hundreds of millions of won. Lee Jin-ho caused damages of 100 million won to Jimin in 2022 and at least tens of millions of won to broadcaster Lee Soo-geun. It is also known that broadcasting executives, producers, and writers lent him emergency funds but did not get repaid.
