Namyangju City, Residents' Autonomy College Graduation Ceremony... 'Learning Residents' Autonomy through the Wisdom of Jeong Yak-yong' Joo Gwang-deok, Mayor of Namyangju City, is giving a greeting speech at the completion ceremony of the '2024 Resident Autonomy College' held on the 11th.

Gyeonggi Namyangju City (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 14th that it held a completion ceremony for the committee members who completed all courses of the '2024 Resident Autonomy University' held on the 11th. The Resident Autonomy University was operated over two weeks from the 30th of last month to the 11th.

This training was conducted for newly appointed resident autonomy committee members from 16 eup, myeon, and dong districts with the goal of strengthening practical skills for activating resident autonomy. It consisted of a total of four sessions: △Understanding the value of resident autonomy △Resident autonomy learned through the thoughts and philosophy of Jeong Yak-yong △Operation of resident autonomy projects △Operation of resident autonomy organizations.

In particular, the second session was held in Joan-myeon, where the Jeong Yak-yong historic site is located, fittingly for the city of Jeong Yak-yong. Kim Hyung-seop, head of the Dasan Jeong Yak-yong Team, gave a lecture on how to apply Jeong Yak-yong’s thoughts and philosophy to modern resident autonomy, which received great response.

One resident autonomy committee member who completed the training said, “I appreciated being able to learn comprehensive content about resident autonomy through various lecture formats,” and added, “I will utilize what I learned in this training to strive for solving local issues through communication and cooperation as a resident autonomy committee member.”

Mayor Joo Gwang-deok said, “I would like to express my gratitude to the resident autonomy committee members who diligently attended all four sessions and the completion ceremony despite their busy schedules,” and continued, “I hope the committee members will take the lead in creating ‘Namyangju, the city Jeong Yak-yong dreamed of’ by inheriting the spirit of Dasan Jeong Yak-yong learned at this Resident Autonomy University, and I will also join in that journey.”

The city plans to focus administrative efforts on establishing Namyangju-style resident autonomy education by continuously researching and developing educational programs tailored to demand, such as customized education for resident autonomy (committee) meetings by eup, myeon, and dong districts, and Resident Autonomy University in 2025.
