The Dongmyung University soccer team, representing Busan, advanced to the semifinals by defeating Jungwon University, the representative of Chungbuk, 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the 105th National Sports Festival men's university division.
In the match held at Gimhae University on the 13th, Dongmyung University struggled in the early stages and conceded the first goal in the 13th minute, making for a difficult start. However, in the 20th minute, a free kick by Hong Jiwoo led to an own goal by a Jungwon University player, leveling the score at 1-1. Later, in the 43rd minute of the first half, Min Donghu scored from a goalkeeper rebound, giving Dongmyung University a 2-1 lead.
The fierce battle continued in the second half, and in the 86th minute, Song Hyuk, who had been substituted in, scored from a corner kick by Hong Jiwoo, sealing a 3-1 victory for Dongmyung University.
With this win, Dongmyung University secured at least a bronze medal by advancing to the semifinals in their first-ever appearance at the National Sports Festival. The Busan Sports Council achieved the feat of reaching the semifinals in the men's university soccer tournament for the first time in 21 years.
Dongmyung University previously defeated Chodang University, representing Jeonnam, 5-1 in the round of 16, and scored a total of 8 goals in 2 matches by beating Jungwon University 3-1 in the quarterfinals.
In this National Sports Festival, Dongmyung University received enthusiastic support from President Jeon Ho-hwan, faculty, and the student cheering squad, boosting the morale of the players.
Acting head coach Lee Seungjun said, "The players have worked hard with the goal of winning as we approach the last national tournament of the year. We will do our best in the remaining matches to finish the 2024 national tournament with a victory."
Dongmyung University will play against Chosun University, representing Gwangju, in the semifinals at Gimhae University on the 15th.
