Top Material Breaks Ground on LFP Cathode Material Plant in Pyeongtaek Brain City

A Total Investment of 50 Billion KRW... Scheduled for Completion in August Next Year
City: "It Will Become a Hub for Advanced Industrial Technological Innovation"

Top Material, a secondary battery solution company, is set to officially establish the first domestic lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode material production plant in the Brain City General Industrial Complex in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.

According to Pyeongtaek City on the 14th, Top Material held a groundbreaking ceremony at the Brain City industrial complex on the 11th, marking the start of the LFP production line construction. This groundbreaking follows the investment agreement worth 50 billion KRW signed between Pyeongtaek City and Top Material at the end of July.

Top Material’s manufacturing plant is the first company to begin construction within the Brain City industrial complex. At the groundbreaking ceremony, Jung Jang-seon, mayor of Pyeongtaek, stated, "This groundbreaking will serve as a signal for the revitalization of Brain City’s leasing," adding, "We expect positive effects on the local economy and job creation."

The Brain City industrial complex, adjacent to Samsung Electronics’ Pyeongtaek Campus, is being developed as an advanced residential and mixed-use industrial complex. Covering a total area of 4.82 million square meters, it is the largest industrial complex in Gyeonggi Province. The complex is highly accessible, directly connected to the Songtan IC of the Pyeongtaek-Jecheon Expressway. A city official expressed expectations that "through this groundbreaking, the Brain City industrial complex will become an important hub leading the formation of advanced industrial clusters and technological innovation."

The new plant will cover an area of 8,264 square meters, with a target completion date of August next year. The company plans to establish a mother line capable of producing 3,000 tons of LFP annually by next year as the first phase. The completion of Top Material’s LFP cathode material manufacturing plant is scheduled for August next year. The newly established manufacturing facility aims to simultaneously produce approximately 3,000 tons of LFP materials annually, as well as next-generation high-manganese cathode materials (LMNO, LMRO) that the company has been developing.
