"Drowsy Driving Crash Leaves Family Hospitalized"
"Tunnels and Highways Are Scary Now"
Shin Jung-hwan, formerly of the group Country Kko Kko, was involved in a rear-end collision caused by a drowsy driver.
On the 14th, Shin Jung-hwan posted on his Instagram, "Suddenly, we were hit by a drowsy driver, and my family had to be hospitalized," sharing a black box video. He added, "Now tunnels, highways, and the back seat all feel scary. I deleted the audio from the latter part."
The released black box footage shows the moment of the collision between Shin Jung-hwan’s vehicle, which was driving in the first lane of a tunnel, and a fast-approaching car from behind. After colliding with Shin Jung-hwan’s car, the accident vehicle skidded from the impact, sparks flew, and the car jolted before barely coming to a stop.
Shin Jung-hwan explained the situation at the time, saying, “We were driving at the regulated speed when the other vehicle collided with our family car at an incredible speed.” He continued, “My child and I were in the back seat; the child was so shocked that they couldn’t even scream and hit the front seat, but fortunately, there were no serious injuries.”
He said, “Since it was my first time experiencing a tunnel accident, I was worried about a secondary collision, so I frantically waved my clothes until the police car arrived from behind. Normally, you should set up a warning triangle and evacuate through the emergency exit, but when it actually happened, I couldn’t think of anything.” He added, “Later, when I relaxed, the pain in my neck and shoulders worsened, so I took an ambulance to the hospital.”
The vehicle that hit Shin Jung-hwan’s family car was found to have been driven by a drowsy driver. Shin Jung-hwan said, “I’ve heard it’s more dangerous than drunk driving, but do you think this accident looks like drowsy driving? Can someone collide like this at this speed while dozing off without hitting the wall or changing lanes?”
The post received comments such as, "Glad no one was seriously hurt," "Just watching the video is terrifying," "Drowsy driving is like murder," "Look at the speed. It could have been a disaster," and "It must have been even more frightening since a child was in the car."
Meanwhile, Shin Jung-hwan debuted in 1994 as a member of the group Roo'ra and later gained widespread popularity as part of the male duo Country Kko Kko with Tak Jae-hoon. However, he was later expelled from the broadcasting industry due to controversies including overseas gambling and lying about dengue fever. Shin Jung-hwan has attempted several comebacks but received poor responses and is currently continuing his activities through YouTube and other platforms.
