Yang Su-hyun, Mayor of Yangju City, is smiling brightly with citizens at the '2024 Yangju City Social Economy Sharing Market Giver Market' held on the 12th at Yangju Nonghyup Agricultural Products Distribution Center, Hanaro Mart, Yangju. Gyeonggi Yangju City (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 14th that the ‘2024 Yangju Social Economy Sharing Market Giver Market,’ held on the 12th at Yangju City Hanaro Mart Nonghyup Yangju Agricultural Products Distribution Center, was successfully concluded with active participation from citizens.
The ‘Giver Market’ is a direct transaction market that informs citizens about social economy and its values, promotes social economy enterprises within the region, and helps them develop sales channels.
This event was held for the second time following June, with a total of 22 companies and related organizations participating, including social enterprises, cooperatives, village enterprises, and small business owners.
The event featured performances by Art Develop, a preliminary social enterprise in the area, Byeolsandae Nanta, a handpan club performance, various events and games, offering a diverse program that the whole family could enjoy together.
Additionally, the Yangju Social Economy Council conducted a campaign to raise awareness of fair trade in the region and promoted social economy enterprises together with fair trade activists who completed the fair trade activist training course.
At the Giver Market, events such as giving a shopping bag engraved with the Giver Market logo for purchases over 10,000 KRW, and providing discount coupons that can be freely used within the Giver Market when bringing a shopping bag or tumbler, were held, attracting continuous foot traffic from citizens throughout the event hours.
On one side of the venue, a ‘Giver Box’ was installed where participating companies and citizens could voluntarily donate. The donations collected that day will be used for sharing with vulnerable groups in the region through the Yangju Volunteer Center.
Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju said, “Through this social economy Giver Market event, citizens’ interest in the social economy has increased, and it provided an opportunity for citizens to directly experience excellent products and services from social economy enterprises realizing social value,” adding, “We will continue to strive to expand sales channels and create an ecosystem for Yangju’s social economy enterprises.”
