Popular Drama Game of Thrones Props Auction

Props from the popular drama series "Game of Thrones," produced by the American studio HBO, are making headlines in the auction market. The total sales have already reached $21 million (approximately 28.3 billion KRW).
According to reports from foreign media including the US AP News on the 14th (local time), various items used as props in Game of Thrones were auctioned at the "Heritage Auction" in the United States from the 10th to the 12th. A total of 900 items including armor, accessories, weapons, and jewelry were featured.
Game of Thrones is an HBO drama that aired in 2011. It is based on "A Song of Ice and Fire," written by George R. R. Martin, one of the masters of American fantasy novels, and ran for 8 seasons, concluding in 2019.
The drama was broadcast in over 170 countries and gained popularity close to a "syndrome," and the production costs were enormous. Especially, the realistic props that seemed to faithfully reproduce medieval weapons and armor became a hot topic among fans.
AP News reported that the most fiercely contested bidding in this auction was none other than the "Iron Throne." The Iron Throne has an impressive shape that looks like hundreds of swords melted down and forged into a chair, making it the central focus of the drama throughout the series. After six minutes of bidding competition, the throne was sold for $1.49 million (approximately 2 billion KRW).

The specific production method of the Iron Throne was also revealed. First, a model was made of plastic, then finished with paint that gives a metallic feel and decorated with jewels.
According to the internal setting of the drama, the Iron Throne was made by melting down the swords of challengers who lost their lives trying to claim the throne, using the breath of dragon fire. Throughout the drama, the Iron Throne symbolized the desires of the characters for power.
Heritage Auction released a statement on the 13th, saying, "During this event, 4,500 bidders participated, and approximately $21 million was earned in total."
