Moorim P&P is showing strong performance. This is interpreted as being influenced by the news that printing presses are operating 24 hours a day due to a surge in sales of works by novelist Han Kang, who won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
As of 9:28 AM on the 14th, Moorim P&P is trading at 3,010 KRW, up 5.06% compared to the previous day.
Novelist Han Kang became the first Korean and the first Asian woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature on the 10th. As a result, most of Han Kang's works sold in domestic bookstores have sold out, and printing presses are running 24 hours a day to print her works.
In particular, from 8 PM on the 10th, when the Nobel Prize was announced, until 10 AM on the 11th, a record sales volume was recorded over 14 hours. According to Aladin on that day, compared to the 9th, sales of "The Boy Who Escaped" increased 521 times, "The Vegetarian" 901 times, "Human Acts" 1,719 times, "White" 2,072 times, and "Greek Lessons" 1,235 times. In the case of "The Boy Who Escaped," 18 copies were sold per minute from the announcement time (8 PM on the 10th) until midnight.
The atmosphere in foreign bookstores is similar. According to foreign media, not only in Japan, where the reading population is still large and the bookstore industry remains strong, but also in Europe including the UK and France, both translated versions and Korean originals have sold out. Interest is also rising in the play "The Vegetarian," scheduled to open next month at a theater in Paris. This work, adapted from Han Kang's novel of the same name, will premiere in Paris through cooperation between the Korean Cultural Center in France and the Italian Cultural Institute in France.
Meanwhile, Moorim P&P is the only domestic manufacturer of bleached chemical pulp. It produces printing papers such as art paper and white paper, essential products for industrial activities and cultural life, and sells them domestically and internationally.
