Busan City and Taxi Industry to Recruit More Corporate Taxi Drivers... First Job Fair to Be Held

Busan Citizens Park to Host 'Recruitment Fair' by City and Taxi Transport Association from 10 AM to 5 PM on the 17th

This is the first time the city and the Taxi Transportation Business Association are jointly hosting the event to address the taxi driver shortage. To maximize synergy, it will be held in conjunction with the '2024 Busan 50+ Job Fair' organized by the Busan Senior and Middle-aged Job Support Center.

Anyone with a driver's license who wishes to work for a corporate taxi company can participate.

The city expects that this recruitment fair will provide much-needed relief to the corporate taxi industry, which has been struggling with a sharp decline in operation rates due to a shortage of drivers since COVID-19.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, many taxi drivers have moved to the parcel delivery and courier industries, resulting in a significant drop in operation rates, fewer passengers, and decreased income. As a result, the number of taxi drivers has decreased by more than 5,000 compared to pre-COVID-19 levels.

Consequently, the operation rate for corporate taxis remains at just 44% (as of June 2024). For example, if a taxi company needs 10 drivers, only 4 are available, which is worsening business difficulties and making it harder for citizens to use taxis conveniently.

This fair will feature a variety of program booths, with participation from the city, the Corporate Taxi Transportation Business Association, corporate companies, and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority. Programs include one-on-one job counseling for job seekers, experience programs, and city policy promotion.

Specifically, for job counseling, a total of five counseling booths will be operated by region according to the location of the corporate taxi companies. Dedicated staff from the association and corporate companies will provide information on companies and conduct recruitment consultations with job seekers. Based on the counseling sessions, the recruitment process between companies and job seekers will proceed afterwards.

At the experience program booth, the Korea Transportation Safety Authority will provide indirect training using an eco-driving simulator. The policy promotion booth will introduce the city's transportation policies.

To promote the fair, the city and the Corporate Taxi Transportation Business Association are actively publicizing the event through official social media channels, website banners, local job centers, and promotional materials at taxi stands across districts.

Detailed information about the fair can be found on the official website.

Kang Heeseong, Director of the City's Transportation Innovation Bureau, stated, "As the taxi industry is struggling to secure workforce, we ask for the active interest and participation of job seekers who wish to work for corporate taxi companies. We will also make great efforts to support the industry so that citizens can use taxis smoothly."
