Pohang's First Craft Beer Festival Draws 80,000 Visitors in Two Days
Revitalizing Local Alleys and Creating Memories for Pohang Residents and Visitors
Pohang City held the 'Pohang Craft Beer Festival' at Pohang Yangdeok Sports Park on the 11th and 12th.
Lee Gangdeok, mayor, visiting the '1st Pohang Craft Beer Festival' held at Pohang Yangdeok Sports Park.
It is estimated that more than 80,000 people visited the festival over the two days, creating a rare scene as crowds filled the Yangdeok-dong area, which usually has low foot traffic after work hours due to the abundance of large apartment complexes.
In line with the festival's goal of revitalizing local alley businesses and boosting regional consumption, the event also increased sales at nearby shops, injecting new energy into the local commercial district.
The event featured more than 20 food booths and food trucks run by local small business owners, offering a variety of unique Pohang specialties. By around 8:30 p.m., most items were sold out, prompting many attendees to move to nearby shops and further invigorate the surrounding businesses.
Among the 11 craft beer companies participating in the festival, there was a free tasting event for 'Cheongryong,' a Pohang craft beer scheduled to be released in March next year. Thanks to the festival's success, 'Line Seven Beer,' a favorite among craft beer enthusiasts, plans to relocate from Uljin to Pohang.
Mr. A, who runs a nearby restaurant, said, "During the festival, sales increased by more than 230% compared to usual," while Mr. B, who operates a convenience store, added, "Some items sold out completely due to the large number of festival visitors using the store."
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "The first-ever craft beer festival in Pohang is especially meaningful as it is an event for both local residents and merchants. I hope this event will empower small business owners and help revive the struggling local commercial districts. We will continue to develop meaningful events that can boost the local economy."
