Formation of Public Cable Maintenance Task Force with Local Residents, Telecom Operators, and District Officials
Systematic Maintenance through Individual and Joint Maintenance (2 Sessions) by Telecom Operators
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that starting this year, it will maintain aerial cables such as electric wires and communication lines that damage the urban landscape and threaten pedestrian safety, together with the ‘Maintenance Promotion Team’ involving local residents.
In March, the district established the ‘Ordinance on Supporting the Maintenance of Aerial Cables in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul’ and formed the ‘Aerial Cable Maintenance Promotion Team’ (hereinafter referred to as the Promotion Team), consisting of district officials, communication service providers, and residents of the maintenance target areas.
Since September, the Promotion Team has inspected 1,423 shared electric and communication lines and utility poles in areas including Seil Middle School in Doksan 1-dong, Malmi Village, and Siheung-daero 123-gil.
The main inspection items included broadcast and communication feeder lines that are tangled or installed in multiple directions, broadcast and communication facilities excessively installed on the same utility pole, and abandoned lines that no longer provide services.
The joint maintenance was conducted in two phases. In the first phase, district officials and residents participated to evaluate the maintenance conducted so far, select additional areas requiring maintenance, and convey them to the communication service providers.
In the second phase, the communication service providers immediately addressed the additional maintenance issues identified in the first inspection on-site or completed individual maintenance within one to two weeks and reported the results to the district.
After the joint maintenance is completed, the district plans to collect residents’ opinions through a satisfaction survey and reflect them in next year’s aerial cable maintenance project.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I hope that the joint maintenance of aerial cables with residents will improve both the maintenance effect and residents’ satisfaction,” and added, “We will continue to seek efficient methods for maintaining aerial cables and do our best to create a pedestrian-friendly city of Geumcheon.”
The district is working with communication service providers to inspect aerial cables in preparation for heavy rain and strong winds, contributing to the prevention of safety accidents among residents and the improvement of the walking environment.
