Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 13th that it is recruiting special zone operators to participate in the 'Gyeongbuk Regulatory Free Zone for Circulation and Utilization of Core Components from Used Electric Vehicles.' Core components include batteries, motors, inverters, and reducers.
Gyeongbuk Province will accept letters of intent to participate in the special zone project through a recruitment announcement for 18 days from the 14th to the 31st.
Companies or institutions wishing to participate can check the announcement on the official website of Gyeongsangbuk-do and the notice section of the Gyeongbuk Technopark website.
Companies with business sites in Korea that can relocate or establish new sites within the special zone in the future may apply via email to the Regional Revitalization Planning Center of Gyeongbuk Technopark by 6 p.m. on the 31st.
Applicant companies will be designated as special zone operators through a selection and evaluation process. Once designated, they will be granted special provisions for the evaluation and remanufacturing use of core components from used electric vehicles, and will be able to participate in demonstration projects and reliability assessments for the circulation and utilization of these core components.
This special zone project will be carried out within a 1.15 million square meter zone including the Pohang Blue Valley National Industrial Complex and the Yeongilman General Industrial Complex. In line with the carbon neutrality and electric mobility industry growth trends, the main focus is to expand Pohang's existing electric vehicle battery cluster into an innovative cluster for the remanufacturing, reuse, and recycling of core electric vehicle components.
The 'Gyeongbuk Regulatory Free Zone for Circulation and Utilization of Core Components from Used Electric Vehicles,' designated last month as a candidate for the 10th regulatory free zone, was planned to create a resource circulation belt for electric vehicle core components, connecting the electric vehicle parts industrial complex in Gyeongju and the finished vehicle industrial complex in Ulsan.
Through this recruitment of special zone operators, Gyeongbuk Province aims to attract innovative electric vehicle parts and materials companies to the special zone and accelerate the successful implementation of the regulatory free zone project for the circulation and utilization of core components from used electric vehicles.
Lee Jungwoo, Director of Meta AI Science at Gyeongbuk Province, said, "We will successfully carry out this recruitment of operators and continue to expand the used electric vehicle parts industry," and added, "We ask that many related companies across the country participate in our region's special zone project."
