Promoting Social Participation of the Deaf... Communicating and Harmonizing with the Hearing
Lee Dong-hwan, Mayor of Goyang, "Towards a Society Accompanying the Socially Vulnerable through Rational Welfare"
Lee Dong-hwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, is delivering a greeting at the "20th Goyang Citizens' Deaf Day Commemoration Ceremony and One Mind Sports Festival" held on the 12th at the Goyang City Hall gymnasium. Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 13th that the "20th Deaf Day Commemoration and Unity Sports Festival with Goyang Citizens" was held at the Goyang City Hall Gymnasium on the 12th.
Organized by the Goyang Branch of the Korea Deaf Association Gyeonggi Province Chapter, this event was prepared to promote the rights and social participation of the deaf in Goyang City and to foster communication and harmony between the deaf and hearing communities.
At the ceremony, people with disabilities and their families from Goyang City, as well as workers related to disability welfare, attended. Many distinguished guests, including Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City, members of the National Assembly, provincial councilors, and city councilors, graced the event.
The event proceeded with a congratulatory performance by a sign language performance team, followed by the awarding of commendations to exemplary persons with disabilities, guest speeches, a donation ceremony, and the sports festival.
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City said, "I am pleased to participate in the Deaf Unity Sports Festival prepared for the deaf in Goyang City," and added, "I am grateful to the organization officials who are doing their best to protect the rights and carry out welfare projects for the approximately 7,000 hearing and speech-impaired residents of Goyang."
He continued, "Future social welfare must move toward customized and rational welfare, resolving welfare blind spots and providing more support where it is truly needed through rational welfare services, creating a society that walks together with the socially vulnerable," emphasizing this point.
The Deaf Day Unity Sports Festival became a meaningful occasion where the deaf and hearing people could enjoy and communicate together, marking an important step toward building an inclusive society.
