Russian President Vladimir Putin held his first summit with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and discussed bilateral relations, Russian state news agency TASS reported on the 11th (local time).
According to the report, President Putin met with President Pezeshkian at a regional summit held in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, and said, "The two countries are actively cooperating on the international stage, and their assessments of events happening around the world are very close."
This was the first time President Putin and President Pezeshkian held a meeting. Anise Tabrizi, a senior analyst and associate member at the UK Chatham House, told CNN about the bilateral relationship, "After the Ukraine war, the two countries have become mutually dependent and equal, relying on each other on certain issues," adding, "It is considered beneficial from Iran's perspective."
Meanwhile, according to foreign media reports, President Putin officially invited President Pezeshkian to visit Russia.
