Suwon Nambu Fire Station Strengthens Promotion of 'Vehicle Fire Extinguisher Installation'

Suwon Nambu Fire Station Strengthens Promotion of 'Vehicle Fire Extinguisher Installation' Mandatory Vehicle Fire Extinguisher Placement Notice Poster by Suwon Nambu Fire Station

The Suwon Southern Fire Station in Gyeonggi Province will strengthen its promotional efforts as the mandatory installation of fire extinguishers in vehicles is expanded starting December 1.

According to the current "Act on the Installation and Management of Firefighting Facilities," fire extinguishers are required in vehicles with seven or more seats. However, from December 1, this regulation will be extended to all vehicles, including passenger cars with five or more seats.

Eom Taebok, Head of the Fire Prevention Division at Suwon Southern Fire Station, stated, "If all vehicles are equipped with fire extinguishers, it will protect not only my safety but also the safety of those around me," adding, "Having a fire extinguisher in vehicles greatly helps in early fire suppression and reducing casualties."

Meanwhile, according to the National Fire Information System, the number of vehicle fires in the jurisdiction over the past three years was 21 in 2021, 28 in 2022, and 31 in 2023.

Vehicle fires can be caused by various factors such as electrical or mechanical issues and traffic accidents. If not extinguished early, they tend to spread rapidly due to combustible materials like seats and interior components, making it crucial to have fire extinguishers in vehicles for initial fire suppression.
