[2024 National Audit] Commissioner of Police on Internal Dissatisfaction with Organizational Restructuring Plan: "Public Perspective is Important"

Police Chief Jo Ji-ho stated on the 11th regarding internal opposition to the organizational restructuring plan, including the establishment of the Mobile Patrol Unit and Criminal Mobile Unit, that "It is important to consider whether the policy is viewed from an internal organizational perspective or from the public's perspective."

At the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee hearing that day, Chief Jo responded this way after Assemblyman Jeong Chun-saeng of the Party for National Innovation presented survey results showing that over 90% of police officers were dissatisfied with the organizational restructuring.

Chief Jo said, "After implementing the central district police stations, patrol time increased by about 25%," adding, "An increase in patrol time means the police are going out to meet the public. Police officers patrolling are much more effective than those sitting in police boxes."

According to a survey conducted by Assemblyman Jeong together with the National Police Workplace Council, 93.4% of the 2,657 police officers surveyed expressed dissatisfaction with the organizational restructuring. When asked whether the reorganization of the Mobile Patrol Unit and Criminal Mobile Unit would help in responding to crime and police activities, 94.6% and 92.3%, respectively, answered no.
