Park Jongpil, a proportional representative member of the Daegu Metropolitan Council from the People Power Party, announced on the 11th that he has proposed the "Ordinance on the Promotion and Support of the Drone Industry in Daegu Metropolitan City" during the 312th extraordinary session. This ordinance aims to provide institutional support for expanding the foundation of the drone industry, which is emerging as a leading future industry.
Park Jongpil stated, "The drone industry is a core sector of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, with technological innovation and commercialization advancing rapidly worldwide," and explained the necessity of the ordinance by adding, "However, Daegu currently lacks institutional mechanisms to systematically foster the drone industry."
With the rapid growth of the domestic and international drone industry markets and the central government's expansion of various policy supports for the advancement of the drone industry, Park Jongpil believes that Daegu also needs institutional backing to establish a foundation for industrial development.
In particular, he noted that the drone industry is technologically closely linked to the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) sector, which Daegu is actively promoting, and projected that combining the two industries could generate significant synergy and enhance competitiveness.
This ordinance specifies the mayor's responsibility to implement policies related to the drone industry to strengthen accountability for Daegu's drone industry policy. It also stipulates matters concerning the establishment and implementation of a master plan for the systematic development and promotion of the drone industry, provides a legal basis for projects such as technology development and talent cultivation to contribute to the creation of a drone industry ecosystem, and includes provisions for delegating related tasks to specialized agencies and organizations.
Park Jongpil expressed his expectations, saying, "Once the ordinance is enacted, Daegu will accelerate the creation of a drone industry ecosystem and achieve tangible results in technology development, talent cultivation, and attracting related companies." He emphasized, "It is essential for Daegu to establish concrete plans in accordance with the ordinance and pursue active policies and cooperation to achieve substantial outcomes."
Meanwhile, the ordinance is scheduled to be referred to the relevant standing committee (Economic and Environmental Committee) on the 14th for deliberation.
