Providing a Beautiful Resting Space for Locals and World Cup Park Visitors, Embracing Earth's Past, Present, and Future
Tetra Pak Korea, a global leader in food preprocessing and packaging technology, announced on the 9th that it has opened the ‘Nanbit Garden’ on Metropolis Road in the Peace Park within Seoul World Cup Park.
Nanbit Garden was designed based on the concept of providing local residents and visitors to World Cup Park with a time for rest and rejuvenation, offering experiences of coexistence and healing.
Created around the theme of Earth's resilience, Nanbit Garden features a structure that starts at the waterside and rises to the ground level. At the lowest waterside, ferns were planted; in the middle of the garden, a grassland area using reeds was established; and at the top land, a drought garden was created to prepare for water shortages, expressing the Earth’s past to future. Plants that can thrive with minimal water were primarily planted, including 26 species of herbaceous plants and 16 species of shrubs, along with various trees and flowers.
Additionally, three green ball sculptures symbolizing citizens’ dreams and hopes, as well as a structure representing Tetra Pak’s aseptic packs, were installed to further convey the importance of the environment. On the day, citizens participated in an event where they placed their dreams and hopes into the green balls, reflecting on the meaning of the sculptures.
Garden designer Kyung-A Oh, a leading figure in Korea’s landscaping field, participated in the garden’s creation. Designer Oh is the head of O Gardens and the Oh Kyung-A Garden School. She created the ‘Hana Bank Seed Bank Garden’ and ‘International Peace Garden’ at the Suncheon Bay Expo in 2013, the ‘Hangeul Garden’ at the Clayarch Museum, and participated in the creation of star gardens at Shinsegae Starfield branches in Wirye, Bucheon, and Suwon.
Tetra Pak’s Nanbit Garden is part of the ‘Attractive Garden and Companion Garden Project’ promoted by Seoul City since 2023, marking the first domestic case of a multinational company participating in a garden opening.

The opening ceremony was held with the participation of Tetra Pak Korea, the Nanbit Festival Organizing Committee, Seoul Energy Dream Center, Western Park Leisure Center, Flower Island Cultural Center, and Nanbit Love Village. The event began with a greeting from Eun-Jung Oh, Vice President of Tetra Pak Korea, followed by an opening speech from Chi-Yong Oh, Chairman of the Nanbit Festival Committee, congratulatory remarks from Wan-Shin Kim, Head of the Park Leisure Department at the Western Park Leisure Center, Yong-Seong Lee, Director of the Seoul Energy Dream Center, and Julian Quintart, a broadcaster and environmental activist serving as a Tetra Pak ambassador, concluding with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Moreover, a calligraphy performance by artist So-Young Kim from Geulssidang added excitement to the event. This performance conveyed the message ‘All Together!’ to the citizens, reflecting the goals and significance of the Nanbit Garden opening.
In addition, to celebrate the opening, various programs were organized to promote harmony and sharing with local residents, including citizen participation events linked to the annual local cultural and environmental festival ‘Nanbit Festival’ held at World Cup Park, and activities to protect the park environment.
Niels Hougaard, President of Tetra Pak Korea, stated, "Nanbit Garden is not just a space for preserving nature but a symbol of the community and companies preparing for the future together. Tetra Pak Korea will continue its efforts for sustainable urban environments and work with local residents to spread a culture of coexistence and healing."
Tetra Pak holds the ‘Nanbit Festival’ every May at World Cup Park in Sangam-dong. The Nanbit Festival is a festival highlighting the Nanbit city area in Sangam-dong, which has been reborn from a landfill site into a natural cultural environment city through urban regeneration projects. It educates citizens on the proper recycling methods of aseptic packs and promotes the values of sustainability, regeneration, and circulation. Alongside the Nanbit Festival, the launch ceremony of the university student promotion group ‘Eco Supporters’ is held to promote and encourage citizens’ resource circulation and sustainable activities in daily life.
