First Pledge of the 8th Elected Term in Progress ... 930,000 sqm to Be Released
Youth Hostel and More Planned, Public Notice for Resident Feedback
The Ulsan Sports Park is set to become the second area, following Daun-dong in Jung-gu, to undergo the lifting of the greenbelt restriction, which is the first major pledge of the 8th popularly elected administration.
The Ulsan City Government has decided to lift the greenbelt restriction on an area of 930,000 square meters to facilitate more efficient use of the Ulsan Sports Park facilities and to change land usage. From the 11th to the 25th, a public notice will be issued to gather residents' opinions.
Until now, Ulsan Sports Park has faced ongoing complaints from citizens due to a lack of convenience facilities and parking lots.
In response, Ulsan City has prepared a plan to increase the utilization of the park by lifting the greenbelt restriction on 930,000 square meters in the Ok-dong, Mugeo-dong, and Cheongnyang-eup areas. The city has continuously persuaded the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport by emphasizing the necessity and justification for the lifting.
As a result, preliminary consultations were completed on the 8th, and the process for lifting the restriction has now begun.
Following the announcement, Ulsan City plans to complete the lifting of the greenbelt restriction by the end of November after gathering opinions from the city council, consulting related agencies, and undergoing deliberation by the Urban Planning Committee.
Once the restriction is lifted, a youth hostel will be built in the idle space within Ulsan Sports Park to provide accommodation and convenience for youth athletes and others. The facility will also be used to attract various sports competitions and serve as a training camp.
The youth hostel will have a total floor area of 5,340 square meters, with three above-ground floors, 70 to 80 rooms, and a maximum capacity of 300 people.
A city official stated, "The lifting of the greenbelt restriction at Ulsan Sports Park is the result of ambitious efforts that began with working-level consultations with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport early last year. Once the youth hostel is built, we expect Ulsan to take a big step forward as a city for stay-type tourism and as a city full of fun."
In July last year, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport expanded the authority of non-capital area mayors and governors to lift greenbelt restrictions from areas of up to 300,000 square meters to less than 1,000,000 square meters.
As a result, with the area to be lifted at 930,000 square meters, the Ulsan Sports Park can have its greenbelt restriction lifted directly by the mayor of Ulsan after deliberation by the city’s Urban Planning Committee.
