Park Daesung (30), who chased and killed a high school girl he had never met before in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do, was captured on CCTV appearing to smile immediately after the crime. Experts have analyzed this as "an expression of satisfaction with the murder."

Profiler Bae Sang-hoon appeared on YTN Radio's ‘Wise Radio Life’ on the 9th and said, “When the desire to kill rises and is carried out, it results in an unconscious smile or a state of excitement as a form of satisfaction.”

He continued, “When such a state is maintained, it can lead to other murders, which is called serial killing. Serial killers tend to maintain a smile or an excited state. They exhibit an unconscious smile, raised corners of the mouth, or run around,” he explained. He added, “Cases like the Joseon incident at Sillim Station and the perpetrator at Seohyeon Station show similar symptoms. They kill and then excitedly wander around. This is a typical symptom.”

Profiler Bae said, “It seems he chose a victim who appeared weak and someone he thought he could overpower. It’s not that he was mentally impaired due to alcohol, but rather he warmed up his body to commit the crime. Considering his multiple prior violent offenses, it’s possible he practiced serial killing.”

He also stated, “When this type of criminal claims not to remember, it’s deception. In reality, they carry out their plan and then try to control the situation afterward. The claim of not remembering is just an excuse.”

Earlier, Professor Lee Soo-jung of Kyonggi University’s Department of Criminal Psychology offered a similar analysis. On the 2nd, during CBS Radio’s ‘Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show,’ she said, “Among people who share antisocial fantasies, this can be interpreted as a smile expressing satisfaction with achieving their goal.”

Park Daesung was arrested on suspicion of stabbing A (18), who had come out to buy medicine for her disabled father, multiple times with a weapon on a street in Jorye-dong, Suncheon-si, Jeollanam-do, around 12:44 a.m. on the 26th of last month, resulting in her death. Investigations revealed that he had been drinking alone at his delivery restaurant, took a weapon, and chased A for about 800 meters before committing the crime. Park Daesung’s smiling appearance immediately after the crime was captured on CCTV, sparking national outrage.
