Aunt Throws 11-Month-Old Nephew from 24th Floor Apartment... "I Euthanized Him"

Psychopathic Traits and History of Depression
"I Want to Hug You," Then Locked the Door and Committed the Crime

A woman in her 40s who threw her 11-month-old nephew from a high floor of an apartment, killing him, was sentenced to a heavy punishment.

On the 10th, the 1st Criminal Division of the Daegu District Court Seobu Branch (Chief Judge Do Jeong-won) sentenced Aunt A (42, female), who was charged with throwing her 11-month-old nephew to his death, to 15 years in prison and ordered 5 years of probation, News1 reported on the same day.

A visited an apartment in Daegu where her younger brother and his wife live on the afternoon of May 8, Parents' Day, around 6:34 p.m., and was tried for throwing her 11-month-old nephew B out of the veranda on the 24th floor, causing his death. On the day of the incident, A had brought a weapon in her bag in advance and visited her brother’s house, but thinking that using the weapon would be discovered and fail, she changed her method of crime.

She took the child from her mother C, who was holding B, saying, "I want to hold him too," then locked the door while C briefly left the room and committed the crime. At the time of A’s crime, B’s mother was separately preparing dinner. A was known to have antisocial personality disorder (psychopathy) tendencies and depression, and although she was in a manageable state with medication after discharge, it was found that she did not take her medicine.

At the crime scene, A made abnormal remarks to B’s mother, her sister-in-law, such as "I euthanized him," and "I will kill him painfully even at the hospital." It is known that A, deluded by the belief that her family was tormenting B and that he would live miserably, committed the crime under the pretext of relieving B’s suffering.

The prosecution stated, "A secretly brought a weapon on the day of the crime, closed the door to avoid being caught, and committed the crime, which shows premeditation," and requested the court to sentence her to 20 years in prison, attach an electronic tracking device for 10 years, and impose 5 years of probation. B’s bereaved family also pleaded for severe punishment, saying, "We lost our one and only son in the world and will continue to live in pain."

The court explained the reason for the sentence, saying, "The victim, who could not express her will, died in pain, and the victim’s mother will live with emotional wounds and pain."
