Gyeongnam Information University (President Kim Taesang) announced on the 10th that students from the Department of Visual Design recently received awards at the “2024 Hangeul Content Idea Contest,” co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Hangeul Museum.

Gyeongnam Information University Student Wins Award at Hangeul Content Idea Contest Celebrating Hangeul Day Students of Gyeongnam College of Information Technology are posing for a commemorative photo after winning an idea contest for Hangul content.

At the awards ceremony held on the morning of the 9th, Hangeul Day, at the auditorium of the National Hangeul Museum, two teams of visual design students from Gyeongnam Information University received prizes and certificates for being selected as winners. The teams were “Bitgeul Deung” (Kim Taehaerang, Kim Jeonga, Jo Yunsol, Kim Sunho) and “Catch the Hangeul Thief!” (Kim Kyungmin, Song Chanmi, Jung Suhyun, Eom Donghyuk).

The “Bitgeul Deung” team created handwritten cards inspired by poet Yun Dongju’s original manuscripts to maximize the beauty and literary expression of Hangeul. The “Catch the Hangeul Thief!” team developed a card game to correct commonly misused Japanese-style expressions in everyday language, earning high praise for their efforts.

The students received support for mockup production and other requirements for the contest through the LINC3.0 project currently being carried out at the university.

Now in its 10th year, the contest was established to widely promote the originality, creativity, and beauty of Hangeul.

Choi Dongcheol, a professor from the Department of Visual Design who guided the students, said, “It was a great opportunity for students to creatively express the excellence of Hangeul using their major on Hangeul Day. I will do my best to nurture creative designers.”

The Department of Visual Design at Gyeongnam Information University, the first design-related department in Busan and Gyeongnam with a 51-year tradition, is highly popular among students for cultivating convergent talents who will lead K-Design.
