Seoyoung University Successfully Concludes the '2024 National Automobile Skills Competition'

Seoyoung University Successfully Concludes the '2024 National Automobile Skills Competition' Seoyoung University Paju Campus held the "15th National Automobile Skills Competition" over two days on the 28th and 29th of last month.

Seoyoung University Paju Campus (President Kim Jeong-su) announced on the 10th that it hosted the "15th National Automobile Skills Competition" over two days from the 28th to 29th of last month.


The "15th National Automobile Skills Competition," held at Seoyoung University Paju Campus, is a nationwide private skills competition jointly organized with the Korea Automobile Technicians Association (hereinafter, KATA).


The National Automobile Skills Competition aims to promote youth employment, entrepreneurship, and job creation through the linkage between educational institutions and industries. It is the only private skills competition targeting both automobile mechanics and high school students, and to foster skilled technicians necessary for the development of the automobile industry, KATA and the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training jointly organize the event annually.


Until now, KATA has held the competition annually at the KINTEX exhibition center during Auto Salon Week, but the 2024 competition was co-hosted by Seoyoung University and KATA and held at Seoyoung University Paju Campus, which boasts excellent automobile practice facilities and a strong pool of faculty members.


For the competition held that day, KATA awarded two Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Awards, two Minister of Employment and Labor Awards, the Chairman’s Award of the Korea Committee of the WorldSkills Competition, the Chairman’s Award of the Federation of Vocational Economic Organizations, the President’s Award of Seoyoung University, and presented encouragement gifts through industry-academia-government cooperation.


The Grand Prize in the automobile maintenance category for the general division (Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award) was awarded to Kim Dong-hwi (2nd Armored Brigade, 29th Tank Battalion), and the student division grand prize (Minister of Employment and Labor Award) went to Kim 0-ho (Dong-A Technical High School). In the automobile body repair category, the general division grand prize (Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award) was awarded to Kim 0-ju (Taean Motors), and the student division grand prize (Minister of Employment and Labor Award) was awarded to Lee 0-gyo (Shinjin Science and Technology High School). To encourage automobile technicians, special awards were also presented by National Assembly members Yoon Hu-deok (Paju City Gap District) and Park Jeong (Paju City Eul District) to outstanding winners.


Additionally, two supervising committee members who contributed to the successful and fair judging of the National Automobile Skills Competition received commendations from Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju City and Chairman Park Dae-sung of the Paju City Council. Kim Jeong-su, President of Seoyoung University, awarded a commendation to the CEO of Paju Hyundai Commercial Service Co., Ltd., who supported maintenance equipment for the successful operation of the competition.


Bong Pil-jun, Deputy Director of the Industry-Academia Cooperation Group at Seoyoung University, who organized the event, stated, "At Seoyoung University, we were able to successfully operate this national competition with the excellent facilities of the Department of Future Automotive and the cooperation of more than 30 internal and external faculty members to contribute to the development of the automobile industry." He added, "I would like to express my gratitude to the dedicated cooperation of our university staff and the volunteer students from the Department of Future Automotive who greatly supported this competition." He further stated, "Our university will continue to do its best for the development of the local community and the automobile industry."
