Uijeongbu-si Selected for 2025 Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project

Secured 728 Million KRW in National Funding to Establish a Smart City Environment in Jakum-dong Kkotdongnae Area

Uijeongbu-si Selected for 2025 Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project Uijeongbu City has been selected for the '2025 Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project' and secured 728 million KRW in national funding.

Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 10th that it has secured 728 million KRW in national funding to establish smart city services in the Jageum-dong Kkotdongnae area after being selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT’s ‘2025 Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project.’

The Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project is a core initiative by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency that promotes digital transformation in local communities by introducing smart services based on information and communication technology (ICT), aiming to achieve balanced regional development.

The city plans to introduce smart village services to address various safety and environmental issues arising from the aging population and the deterioration of residential spaces in the Jageum-dong Kkotdongnae area (around 282 Geumo-dong).

Specifically, the project aims to ▲revitalize living spaces that residents can experience and participate in ▲create walkable villages that embrace vulnerable groups ▲establish space-friendly digital hubs.

Through this, multifunctional AI poles integrating services such as artificial intelligence (AI) video sensors and media boards will be installed at major crime-prone spots and locations frequently affected by illegal dumping to strengthen crime prevention environments and reduce urban aesthetic degradation caused by unauthorized waste disposal.

Additionally, to alleviate inconveniences caused by densely packed old houses and lack of parking spaces, a smart parking lot will be created using the Jageum-dong Community Center and nearby roadside parking lots. Real-time parking information will be provided through a public parking information platform and on-site guidance displays, and it will be linked with the Fire Department’s multi-channel 119 reporting service for electric vehicle fire response.

Furthermore, AI video sensors will be installed at village entrances and exits and child protection zones where traffic accidents frequently occur to build smart crosswalks and IoT pedestrian paths that provide real-time warnings of dangerous situations to drivers and pedestrians.

Ryu Yun-mi, Director of the Smart City Division, said, “This smart village project will achieve balanced development among villages,” adding, “We will do our best to successfully carry out the project through communication with local residents.”
