Gyeonggi Paju City plans to operate a 'Foreigners' Delinquent Tax Collection Period' until the end of December, conducting intensive delinquent tax collection activities.
According to Paju City on the 10th, as of the end of September, there are 1,245 foreigners delinquent on local taxes, with a total delinquent amount of 800 million KRW. Although the number of foreigners residing in the area increases every year, difficulties in local tax collection arise due to uncertain residence addresses and low understanding and interest in local taxes.
Accordingly, the city has prepared notices translated into five foreign languages?English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Uzbek, and Cambodian?and placed them at related foreigner institutions. They plan to raise awareness and encourage payment by informing about payment methods and disadvantages of delinquency, focusing on areas with a high foreign resident population.
Additionally, the city will conduct a survey of foreigners to organize their residences and carry out active delinquent tax enforcement measures such as seizing license plates of habitual delinquent taxpayers, public auctions, and insurance seizures exclusive to foreign workers.
Woo Sang-hwan, head of the Collection Division, stated, “Through a full survey of foreigners delinquent on local taxes, we will accurately grasp the actual situation of foreigner tax delinquency and simultaneously promote understanding of local tax payment among foreigners.”
