Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, and Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, clashed over Lee's remark about "pulling down," which sparked interpretations suggesting a presidential impeachment.

On the 9th, Lee, during a campaign rally supporting Kim Kyung-ji, candidate for Geumjeong District Mayor in Busan, said, "The basic principle of democracy is to elect representatives but monitor them and replace them with others if they make mistakes," adding, "If one cannot endure within the term, they should step down midway." He continued, "Some people find this obvious principle strange," and pointed out, "When I mentioned this obvious matter recently in Ganghwa, some people interpreted it oddly, as if a thief feels guilty." Lee emphasized, "To a minister, only ministers are visible; to a pig, only pigs are visible. I never talked about impeachment, but the ruling party insists I did," stressing, "I was simply discussing general democratic principles."
On the other hand, Han met with reporters at the office of Yoon Il-hyun, candidate for Geumjeong District Mayor in Busan, and said about Lee's remarks, "If everyone interprets a statement the same way, that is the correct interpretation," adding, "Isn't it pathetic to insist otherwise?" He added, "If the words were wrong, wouldn't it be more like Lee to admit it and just brush it off?" and said, "We all know what it means. It would be surprising if it were not so."
Earlier, on the 5th, during a campaign rally supporting the by-election for Ganghwa County Governor in Incheon, Lee said, "If the situation is so serious that we cannot wait for the election, pulling someone down midway is democracy." The ruling party strongly opposed this, saying, "It reveals the true intention of impeaching the president."
