On the 8th, the Elderly Cultural Arts Festival 'Dongbaekje' Held at District Office Plaza and Auditorium
Providing a Venue for Intergenerational Communication through Various Performances and Hands-on Activities
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 8th that the cultural festival for local seniors, ‘Dongbaekje,’ was successfully concluded at the district office plaza and the multipurpose auditorium on the 2nd floor.
‘Dongbaekje’ is an abbreviation for ‘Dongdaemun-gu 100-Year-Old Youth Culture and Arts Festival.’
This festival was planned to provide seniors with opportunities to participate in culture and arts in celebration of October’s ‘Senior Citizens Month,’ and to foster understanding and communication between generations by allowing residents to experience senior culture. About 950 seniors and residents attended the festival, filling the venue with energy.
The event began with a pre-ceremony performance by the Dongdaemun-gu Yegurina Senior Choir in the district office auditorium. This was followed by a commemorative ceremony awarding contributors to senior welfare, and then the ‘Senior Happiness Stage,’ where seniors showcased their talents and skills. Various performances such as recreational dance, samulnori, and Baebongmu were held, and the bubble artist’s fantastic stage amazed the audience.
On the first-floor plaza of the district office, various experience booths were set up for seniors and residents to enjoy together, adding to the festival’s fun. Programs included ▲calligraphy (writing family mottos and maxims) ▲calligraphy experience ▲park golf ▲upcycling activities, among others. In particular, ‘Horse Therapy’ by Dongdaemun-gu’s promotional ambassador ‘Wally’ attracted much attention and provided healing.
Additionally, booths such as ▲4-cut photo studio ▲paper flower photo zone ▲welfare information provision were also prepared, allowing seniors and residents to take photos together and share various welfare information, creating a meaningful time to build empathy between generations.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “I thank all the seniors who participated in Dongbaekje and prepared performances,” adding, “We will spare no effort to provide various support so that seniors can enjoy a healthy and vibrant life.”
