Festival Atmosphere Heightened by Sports Event... Resolution for Successful Hosting of Next Year's Provincial Sports Festival
The 57th Gapyeong Residents' Day commemorative event is being held on the 8th at the Gapyeong Sports Complex. The 57th Gapyeong County Residents' Day celebration, aimed at boosting the pride and unity of Gapyeong residents, was grandly held on the 8th at the Gapyeong Sports Complex.
The event was attended by over 3,000 people, including Seo Tae-won, the Governor of Gapyeong County, Kim Kyung-soo, Chairman of the Gapyeong County Council, Lim Kwang-hyun, member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, heads of social and institutional organizations, and residents from six towns and townships, all celebrating Residents' Day.
The ceremony began with a pre-event performance and the entrance of athletes from the towns and townships, followed by awards for county residents and Gyeonggi Province citizens, commemorative speeches, and congratulatory addresses. The County Residents' Awards were presented in seven categories including regional stability, while the Gyeonggi Province Citizens' Awards were given in eight categories such as law and order establishment.
After the ceremony, popular singers performed celebratory shows, followed by sports competitions featuring participants from the six towns and townships. The inter-town sports competition included 11 events such as soccer, jokgu, baseball, table tennis, tennis, badminton, and gateball, where participants showcased their skills to uphold their region's honor.
In particular, the short marathon and 400m relay saw athletes and cheering squads from each region unite in fierce competition. Cheerful sports events like hula hoop spinning, sky play shoot, township representatives relay, shoe throwing, group jump rope, and Heungbu relay further elevated the festive atmosphere of the day.
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon, National Assembly member Kim Yong-tae, sister cities, and promotional ambassadors also congratulated and supported Gapyeong Residents' Day through video messages. Following this, attendees watched promotional videos of Gapyeong's attractions and the Gyeonggi Sports Festival, fostering enthusiasm for participating in next year's Gyeonggi Provincial Sports Festival to be held in Gapyeong.
Governor Seo Tae-won emphasized, "Over the past two years, we have set a major direction for county administration and worked tirelessly with residents, and now our efforts are bearing fruit," adding, "It is time to move beyond regional conflicts and adopt a spirit of coexistence."
He continued, "With the 2025 Gyeonggi Sports Festival, the Gyeonggi Disabled Sports Festival, and the 2026 Gyeonggi Life Sports Grand Festival all scheduled to be held in Gapyeong, let us all unite as one to turn these events into a driving force for regional growth."
This year's Residents' Day event was regarded as a meaningful occasion that significantly enhanced the pride of Gapyeong residents while wishing for the successful hosting of next year's Gyeonggi Provincial Sports Festival.
