Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority Launches Support Program for Local Multicultural Families

President Park Seong-hyun, "Strengthening Support for Multicultural and Vulnerable Groups"

Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Park Seong-hyun, YGPA) announced that it is taking the lead in community integration and welfare improvement through various support projects for multicultural families.

Since 2019, the Authority has been promoting the ‘Da(Ga)chi Kiwoom-ae(Ae)’ project in collaboration with the Gwangyang City Family Center, operating a wide range of programs for multicultural families residing in Gwangyang City, including parent education for multicultural families, educational experience activities for children, talent education for youth, and visiting multicultural understanding classes.

Through these efforts, it provides a platform for communication between multicultural and non-multicultural families and contributes to reducing educational disparities through after-school programs that minimize childcare gaps.

Additionally, the Authority participated in creating ‘Gajok-ae(Ae) Tteul,’ a multi-purpose space tailored to different family types, on the second floor of the Gwangyang City Family Center.

‘Gajok-ae(Ae) Tteul’ is designed as a space where local residents visiting the center can freely communicate in a comfortable environment.

Moreover, from 2021 to 2022, the Authority collaborated with Yeosu City and the Korea Habitat Jeonnam Eastern Branch to carry out the ‘Decorating Study Rooms for Children of Multicultural Families’ project.

Through this project, the study room environments of children in 20 low-income multicultural families were improved, supporting the production of customized desks and the purchase of books to enhance the children’s learning environment.

President Park Seong-hyun stated, “We will continue to identify welfare blind spots in the region and strengthen support for vulnerable groups, including multicultural families.”

Meanwhile, the Authority has supported the Global Interpretation and Translation Volunteer Group, composed of local multicultural families providing interpretation and translation volunteer services, for two consecutive years, and also sponsors the 2024 Re-foreigners and Multicultural Families Festival organized by Yeosu City and the Yeosu City Family+ Center.
