Moon Dahye (41), daughter of former President Moon Jae-in, was caught by the police while driving under the influence. CCTV footage captured her attempting to enter a vehicle that was not her own while heavily intoxicated before the accident.
According to a report by Seoul Economic Daily on the 7th, around 2:05 a.m. on the 5th, Moon left a bar located in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and headed toward a parked car in front of the establishment. The vehicle was not her Casper car. It is presumed that Moon, intoxicated, mistook the vehicle for her own. The CCTV clearly showed her repeatedly trying to open someone else’s car.
After about two minutes of attempting to get into the vehicle, she leaned against the driver’s door looking exhausted when the door would not open, then returned to the bar. About two minutes after she left, a citizen presumed to be the owner opened the driver’s door, got into the car, and left. Later, around 2:20 a.m., Moon passed by the parked car and headed toward her own vehicle, narrowly passing pedestrians and maneuvering through a narrow street before causing an accident on a nearby road.
Meanwhile, at around 2:51 a.m. on the 5th, Moon was driving her Casper vehicle near the bus stop in front of the Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, when she collided with a taxi while changing lanes. The vehicle involved in the accident was confirmed to be the car that former President Moon personally purchased in October 2021 to promote the "Gwangju-type job" initiative. Vehicle records show it was transferred to Moon Dahye in April.
At the time of police detection, Moon’s blood alcohol concentration was measured at 0.149%, a level warranting license cancellation. However, she did not exhibit any abnormal behavior such as refusing the breathalyzer test and cooperated with the police before being sent home. Moon is scheduled to appear at the Yongsan Police Station for investigation as early as next week.
