Strengthening Safety Education, Developing Night Safety Equipment, Supporting Treatment Costs for Serious Injuries
17 Programs
Woowa Brothers, the logistics service provider for Baedal Minjok (Baemin), announced on the 8th that it will make an additional investment of 10 billion KRW over the next two years to establish a safe operating environment in the domestic delivery industry.
Through this investment, Woowa Brothers will further strengthen its expertise in rider safety support. Notably, it will establish the ‘Rider Safety Management Committee,’ which will comprehensively evaluate rider safety-related projects and programs and take charge of continuous safety activities. The ‘Rider Safety Management Committee,’ equipped with professionalism and independence, will oversee ▲advancement of safety education programs ▲support for treatment and living expenses for serious injury accidents ▲specialized research services. Additionally, Woowa Brothers plans to actively reflect the voices of on-site riders by promoting a ‘Labor-Management Joint Program’ conducted together with riders.
The scale of education at Baemin Rider School, a specialized training institution for two-wheeled vehicle practice, will also be significantly expanded. The ‘Hanam Baemin Rider School,’ unveiled by Woowa Brothers last March, is currently under construction with a budget of approximately 30 billion KRW on a three-story building covering about 8,000㎡. Woowa Brothers plans to greatly enhance the safety education program by utilizing the expanded infrastructure compared to before.
They will also actively implement measures to ensure rider safety during nighttime operations. Considering the increased risk of accidents due to limited visibility in nighttime delivery environments, Woowa Brothers has decided to develop and distribute safety equipment such as delivery bags with reflective materials, helmets, and vests. The ‘Rider Seasonal Item Support Project’ will also be further expanded. This project has been carried out for four consecutive years since 2021, providing seasonal delivery items to more than 35,000 riders to date.
Customized support programs for riders who suffer damage due to unexpected accidents will also be strengthened. Woowa Brothers plans to implement a program that supports treatment and living expenses for up to six months for full-time riders who require treatment and recuperation periods of 90 days or more, based on criteria agreed upon with the labor union.
In addition, Woowa Brothers will expand and operate a total of 17 rider safety support projects, including ▲free two-wheeled vehicle care programs ▲activation of rest areas linked with convenience stores ▲road hazard factor measures ▲operation of specialized rider care organizations ▲operation of legal support centers ▲operation of psychological care programs.
Kim Byung-woo, CEO of Woowa Brothers, said, “As social interest in delivery two-wheeled vehicle safety grows and related discussions become more active, Woowa Brothers’ responsibility to prioritize rider safety is also increasing,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to establish a safe delivery driving culture and promote healthy delivery service development.”
