Expansion of Insurance Premium Support for Newborn Injury and Illness
Support of up to 20,000 KRW per Person per Month for 5 Years
Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 8th that it has significantly strengthened its newborn injury and illness insurance premium support program as part of its birth promotion policy. With this expansion, families with a second or later newborn born and residing in the district can receive insurance premium support of up to 20,000 KRW per month per child for five years.
According to the district, as of the end of 2023, there are 563 households in Dongjak-gu with a second or later child. This number is about ten times higher than the previous support target of 56 households with a third or later child.
Notably, Dongjak-gu is the only district providing support benefits starting from the second newborn (retroactive support for those born on or after January 1, 2024). The coverage includes ▲diagnosis fees for pediatric cancer and fractures caused by accidents ▲hospitalization fees for conditions frequently occurring in infancy such as atopic dermatitis and food poisoning ▲outpatient fees for cancer treatment and specific diseases ▲fees for disease treatment, burn care, major pediatric disease surgeries, and disability diagnosis. Insurance applications can be made by visiting the community service center or through the Government24 website.
Mayor Park Il-ha said, “We hope this will provide some financial relief to parents with multiple children,” and added, “As Dongjak-gu leads childcare policies, we will continue to implement various birth promotion policies.”
