On the 7th, Gwangju Mayor Kang Gi-jung appointed Kim Seung-nam (58), a former lawmaker, as the 12th president of Gwangju Urban Corporation at the city hall reception room.
President Kim underwent evaluation of his qualifications and capabilities through the executive recommendation committee's review and the Gwangju City Council's personnel hearing special committee procedures. On the 27th of last month, the Gwangju City Council adopted the personnel hearing report and sent it to Gwangju City.
President Kim is a prominent figure with over 30 years of political party experience, including serving as a two-term National Assembly member (19th and 21st sessions), chairman of the Democratic Party's Jeonnam Provincial Party Committee, and senior deputy secretary-general of the Democratic Party. He is recognized for his outstanding political skills and leadership, expected to demonstrate strong cooperation and conflict resolution abilities. Additionally, based on his extensive personal network formed with various central government agencies and organizations, he is anticipated to elevate the Urban Corporation, which is currently advancing major large-scale projects such as the Gwangju Research and Development Special Zone Advanced District 3, Gwangju Energy Valley, Urban High-tech Industrial Complex development, and the construction of AI-centered industrial convergence cluster spaces.
President Kim stated, “I will add momentum to the Urban Corporation’s projects, where securing funding is crucial, and devise diverse new businesses to improve the corporation’s profitability. I will do my best for the citizens of Gwangju.”
Mayor Kang Gi-jung said, “Since the Urban Corporation is involved in various areas of city administration such as housing, sports facilities, and industrial complexes, the leader’s integrative ability is even more necessary. I ask you to join hands in making Gwangju a city of opportunity that shines tomorrow.”
