Daejeon City and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) signed a business agreement on the 7th to promote the preservation and utilization of the KEPCO Daejeon Supply Center, which is a nationally registered heritage site.

The city is planning to purchase the KEPCO Daejeon Supply Center, currently used as a research institute by the KEPCO Electric Power Research Institute, and establish the 'Daejeon Studies Power Plant,' the first local studies education and research hub in Daejeon.

According to the agreement, Daejeon City and KEPCO will jointly carry out necessary projects until the opening of the Daejeon Studies Power Plant.

The Daejeon Studies Power Plant will be established at the KEPCO Daejeon Supply Center (150-208, Sinheung-dong, Dong-gu), which was originally built in 1930 during the Japanese colonial period as the 3rd Power Plant of Daejeon Electric Co., Ltd.

The first floor will be remodeled to house the Daejeon Studies Archive, where various books and records related to Daejeon can be accessed and copied. The second floor will feature a large conference hall for academic events such as seminars and colloquiums, as well as educational programs and lectures.

The city plans to complete the design by early next year, and after about a year of cultural heritage restoration and facility construction, aims to open in the first half of 2026.

Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, "We are now in an era where competition between cities has become more prominent than national-level competition," and added, "The Daejeon Studies Power Plant will play an important role as a foundation for Daejeon's urban competitiveness."
