Gyeonggi Province will launch a 100-member Citizens' Committee to gather opinions on the K-Culture Valley.
Gyeonggi Province is launching the ‘K-Culture Valley 100 Citizens Committee’ to systematically secure communication with local residents regarding the promotion of the ‘K-Culture Valley’ project.
Gyeonggi Province announced that it will recruit members for the ‘K-Culture Valley 100 Citizens Committee’ from the 7th to the 20th of this month.
Applications can be easily submitted via smartphone using Naver Forms, and detailed information will be posted on the Gyeonggi Province website.
Considering the high interest of Goyang citizens, at least 80% of the committee members will be from Goyang, selected through a random draw, with individual notifications sent on the 24th of this month.
The draw will be conducted by age group, taking into account the population ratio by age.
The operation of the Citizens Committee will run from October this year until the point when citizen communication is needed for the establishment of the K-Culture Valley project plan.
Gyeonggi Province plans to hold about three meetings this year to gather opinions.
This Citizens Committee was decided through a special task force (TF) involving Gyeonggi Province, Goyang City, and private experts.
Gyeonggi Province formed the special task force on July 9 and has held eight meetings so far.
Through the Citizens Committee, Gyeonggi Province plans to share the current status of the project promotion and comprehensively discuss the development methods derived from the preliminary feasibility study for establishing commercialization plans.
Previous meetings with Goyang citizens related to K-Culture Valley had participants who were unspecified, resulting in a lack of consistency and difficulties in making responsible and concrete decision-making progress.
Therefore, Gyeonggi Province intends to form a 100-member Citizens Committee by random draw, representing the local community regardless of gender or age, to ensure consistent and homogeneous information and knowledge, and to achieve the best decisions through rational collective intelligence.
To actively gather opinions from other residents who have affection and understanding of the K-Culture Valley project, the Citizens Committee meetings will be broadcast online in real time, allowing comments and feedback.
K-Culture Valley is a project to develop a 326,400㎡ site in Janghang-dong, Ilsandong-gu, Goyang City, including a K-pop specialized arena, studios, a theme park, commercial, accommodation, and tourism facilities.
At the end of June, Gyeonggi Province terminated the complex development agreement with CJ LiveCity for the K-Culture Valley project.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon promised during the provincial council’s administrative questioning on September 3, "The K-Culture Valley project will be promptly and originally promoted with public responsibility," and added, "We will actively consider private sector participation through communication with Goyang citizens."
