The 30th Namyangju Citizens' Day Celebrated Alongside Garden Culture Expo

Joo Gwang-deok, Mayor of Namyangju City, is delivering a greeting at the '30th Namyangju Citizens' Day Ceremony' held on the lawn of Dasan Central Park on the 5th. Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 7th that it successfully held the ‘30th Namyangju Citizens' Day Ceremony’ on the 5th at the lawn yard of Dasan Central Park, the venue for the Gyeonggi Garden Culture Expo.
The event, attended by about 600 citizens, began with a pre-performance by the Gyeonggi DN Ensemble, followed by the reading of the Citizen Charter, an awards ceremony including the Citizen Awards, and a concert, providing cultural enjoyment to the citizens.
At the ceremony, the meaning of the event was enhanced by the reading of the Citizen Charter by children’s citizen representatives, Lee Wook-hee and Lee Ye-dam, who were appointed honorary mayors for one day this year.
Next, the Citizen Awards and special awards were presented to individuals who contributed to the development of Namyangju City, along with commendations for exemplary citizens.
This year, the honors went to △ Baek Young-hyun, Deputy Head of the Namyangju Saemaul Traffic Volunteer Corps (Social Service) △ Yoon Sung-han, Chairman of the Dasan 2-dong Residents’ Autonomy Committee (Culture and Arts) △ Lee Kyu-woon, CEO of Darwin Chairs Co., Ltd. (Industry and Economy).
Additionally, △ Shin Jae-chan, Chairman of the Dasan 1-dong Neighborhood Association (Health and Environment) △ Kim Yoon-won, Chairman of Byeollae-myeon Sports Association (Education and Sports Promotion) each received awards.
Furthermore, An Ba-ul, who won a bronze medal in the judo team event at the recent Paris Olympics, bringing joy and pride to the citizens of Namyangju and the people of the Republic of Korea, received a special award and was met with much applause and support from many citizens.
As the final congratulatory performance, top domestic vocalists baritone Kim Jin-chu, soprano Kang Hye-jung, and the Namyangju City Choir delivered a high-quality classical stage that offered deep emotion and enjoyment.
Mayor Joo Gwang-deok of Namyangju City said, “Starting with a population of 250,000 in 1995, Namyangju has now grown into the 9th largest city among basic local governments nationwide with a population of 740,000,” celebrating the 30th anniversary of Namyangju Citizens' Day together with the citizens.
Mayor Joo added, “Namyangju is included in all of the GTX-D, E, and F new lines announced by the government in January, as well as the GTX Plus G line proposed by Gyeonggi Province. With the opening of the Byeollae Line last August, it has become the only city among 226 basic local governments nationwide to host 5 subway lines and 5 GTX lines, emerging as the best transportation hub city.”
Mayor Joo Gwang-deok expressed his aspirations, saying, “On the 11th of last month, we also secured the Gyeonggi Northeast Public Medical Center, and Namyangju is moving toward the era of a 1 million mega city, ‘Super Growing Namyangju.’ We will do our best to create a happy city, a city of hope, and an unimaginably super-growing Namyangju together with our citizens.”
