Revealed at Asia Forum Invitational Discussion
"Kim Kwangseok Guitar to Be Installed at Dongdaegu Station"
Cha Kyugeun, the Daegu City Party Chairperson of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, stated on the 7th, "The administrative integration of Daegu and Gyeongbuk was thwarted due to the unilateral and self-righteous approach of Daegu Mayor Hong Junpyo."
At the 'Asia Forum 21' invitational discussion, a gathering of mid-career journalists from Daegu and Gyeongbuk, Cha said, "Mayor Hong has a unilateral and self-righteous style. He does not seek citizens' consent or communicate with them in his work. His leadership style is reminiscent of the developmental dictatorship approach from decades ago. The problem is his bulldozer-like way of pushing things through," he pointed out.
Cha further stated, "The administrative integration of Daegu and Gyeongbuk was initiated to overcome the problems arising from the concentration of power in the Seoul metropolitan area. As local regions shrink and jobs disappear, young people are leaving for Seoul. President Yoon Sukyeol's low birthrate policy is also fueling housing prices in the metropolitan area. That is why asset owners in Daegu are buying homes in the capital region. This is a problem," he argued.
Cha added, "To prevent the concentration in the metropolitan area, institutions like the Supreme Court, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, and the Constitutional Court should be relocated to the provinces. I have worked as a lawyer for ten years, but I have never had any reason to visit these institutions. There is no reason they must be in Seoul," he emphasized.
Cha continued, "The construction of a Park Chunghee statue at Dongdaegu Station, which Mayor Hong Junpyo is currently promoting, will not last long and will eventually be removed. Dongdaegu Station will become a place of conflict due to pro- and anti-Park Chunghee rallies," he said. "Instead of a Park Chunghee statue, let's install a guitar representing singer Kim Kwangseok at Dongdaegu Station. If we do so, Daegu will become known as a city of musical creativity, Dongdaegu Station will become a plaza filled with music, and music lovers from all over the country will come to Daegu and Dongseongno to spend money," he proposed.
Cha also stated, "There is already a Park Chunghee statue in Gumi, and the families of victims of judicial murder (Inhyeokdang) under the Park Chunghee regime are still alive. The Daegu economy is struggling and self-employed people are having a hard time. I cannot understand the reason for insisting on building another statue," he said.
Cha added, "Daegu is pushing forward with the idolization of Park Chunghee, including the construction of his statue, in an unreasonable manner. We will seek legal measures in the National Assembly and are considering ways to block such projects," he said.
Cha Kyugeun was born in Hapcheon, Gyeongnam, graduated from elementary, middle, and high school in Daegu, is a proportional representative member of the National Assembly for the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, and has served as the Daegu City Party Chairperson of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party since July.
