Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced on the 7th that it will further strengthen joint inspections targeting entertainment establishments in the district to eradicate the indiscriminate distribution of illegal sexually explicit flyers.

Since May, the district has been conducting joint inspections with the police, led by the Seocho-gu Public Health Center’s Hygiene Division, along with the Urban Planning Division (illegal advertising crackdown) and the Cleaning Administration Division (illegal dumping crackdown), forming a task force (TF) to prevent the distribution of illegal flyers in entertainment districts concentrated around Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station.

In the first half of this year, a large-scale joint crackdown was conducted under the leadership of Seocho-gu Urban Planning Division, together with Gangnam-gu Urban Planning Division and the police, resulting in the arrest of distributors and a significant reduction in the amount of flyer distribution.

With the arrival of autumn, the district will further strengthen crackdowns to prevent the sudden increase in flyer distribution, focusing on areas such as Gangnam Station and Jamwon-dong food alley. Utilizing the established TF, the frequency of inspections and crackdowns on entertainment establishments will be increased, illegal flyer trends will be monitored and tracked, and an on-site emergency contact system will be established to immediately collect illegal flyers upon distribution. Through this, the district aims to completely block activities that harm the cityscape and negatively affect youth sentiment by the end of the year.

Additionally, intensive inspections will be conducted on a total of 175 locations within Seocho-gu that could become hotbeds for drug crimes, including 38 entertainment bars, 76 karaoke bars, and 61 singing practice rooms accessible to youth, to fundamentally prevent drug distribution and criminal activities.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su stated, “We plan to thoroughly prepare to eradicate illegal sexually explicit flyers and prevent drug crimes from occurring,” adding, “We will continue to spare no effort in creating a hygienic and clean Seocho-gu.”
